Rubber Guard - A Great American Invention

(Bottom) Fighter Using Rubber Guard
The Rubber Guard is a new defensive move in Jiu-Jitsu that has the potential to effect all types of grappling competitions around the world including MMA.  The Rubber Guard is a type of guard that was created by America's own Jiu-Jitsu Champion, Eddie Bravo.  He used it effectively to defeat Royler Gracie during a Jiu-Jitsu competition.  It was the first time an American ever submitted a member of the Gracie Family during a competition.

The Rubber Guard happens when the bottom opponent hold the top opponent close by wrapping one leg around the neck and then gripping their own ankle which locks the opponent and leaves them open to many types of submissions such as a triangle choke, omo-plata, or gogo-plata.

We have seen several fighters in MMA pull Rubber Guard on their opponents and many have followed it up with an impressive submission.  This maneuver will definitely be occurring much more often once fighters realize how effective it is.

This new guard created by an American has the ability to change how grappling and MMA is done around the world.
